Scala Beyond

Scala Beyond (take a look at their wicked website!) is a 6 week UK-wide film season dedicated to all forms of cinema exhibition. Embracing the weird and the wonderful, the bizzare and the arthouse, the aim of the season is to shine a spotlight on, and celebrate the people and organisations that keep independent exhibition in the UK alive and thriving.

The programme so far in Birmingham –

>  Wednesday 22 August –  Juniper Film Club presents ‘Blood Simple’, The Jekyll & Hyde – In the Coen Brothers’ ‘Blood Simple‘, a rich but jealous man hires a private investigator to kill his cheating wife and her new man. But when blood is involved, nothing is simple. 8pm – Free + free popcorn!

> Saturday 25 AugustStirchley Happenings presents ‘Harvey‘, T.A.S.C.O.S Social Club, Stirchley. B30 2PR – Stirchley Happenings presents ‘Harvey‘, staring James Stewart at a free Travelling Bug House Film Screening to celebrate their third Birthday, and to say thanks to everyone who has supported them by coming along to their events. 4.30pm – Free

> Wednesday 29  August  – Juniper Film Club presents ‘Donnie Darko‘, The Jekyll & Hyde. – A troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes, after narrowly escaping a bizarre accident. 8pm – Free

> Monday 3 September – OUTPOST Open Film, Grand Union. – This is the launch of Film Club, a regular night at Grand Union, screening films selected by artists. 6.30pm – Free

> Sunday 16 September –  KINO 10: An Evening of Short Films,  The Bull’s Head. – KINO 10 brings the best in short film from all over globe. Expect animation, live-action, music video, experimental, and much much more. – 8pm –  £4

> Friday 21 SeptemberFatbergs presents Short and Swede, 6/8 Kafe. – A screening of sweded films from around the world. Inspired by ‘Be Kind Rewind’, sweded films are short recreations (spoofs) of popular movies, made with no budget by regular people. Swedes are amateurish, slap-dash and hilarious! – 7pm – Free.
