Highlighting under the radar arts and culture in Birmingham, UK

The Alif Ensemble feat. Khyam Allami

One night earlier this year I sat in a tent in the desert in Wadi Rum, Jordan being taught the oud by a rather handsome young  Bedouin man. The whole country was full of the most mesmorising music. The beauty of the place made you sing. And I did.

On Thursday evening the Alif Ensemble comes to Ikon Gallery, bringing musicians from Syria, Lebannon, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and Iraq. The ensemble has been conceived by oud player Khyam Allami whose amazing performance I saw at Supersonic a few years back. The ensemble promises an evening of acoustic and contemporary electronic sounds. I hope it will be equally as mesmorising.

Tickets can be bought here.
