A few weeks ago I was invited by the Polish Expats Association to mac to see Horizontal 8, a film screening as part of the Play Poland Film Festival. As part of the festival mac are showing six Polish films as well as holding an exhibition of film posters in the Cinema Gallery.
Horizontal 8 is a curious film set in a future Poland with corrupt, drugged-up cops, the euro and female Catholic priests. Very much a cyclical film, summed up by its title, a description of the mathematical symbol for infinity. Having never visited Poland I think some of the references were lost on me but the different storylines were very cleverly put together. I particularly liked the exhibition of Polish film posters, each a different take on well known films.
Play Poland Film Festival continues until 23 September. Check out the film screenings here.
