Highlighting under the radar arts and culture in Birmingham, UK

Good Hair and Gainsbourg

There are some great films screening in Birmingham over the next weeks which I felt I should highlight. The first is Good Hair, a documentary I saw Chris Rock promoting on The Jonathan Ross Show ages ago. It is a fascinating and entertaining insight into African-American hair culture. The film shows at mac this week until Thursday. More information can be found here.

Also screening is the spectacular Gainsbourg which I saw last week. A very unconventional bio-pic about musician Serge Gainsbourg. The film, directed by graphic novelist Joann Sfar, also features special effects from the makers of Pan’s Labyrinth. Over the next few weeks it is screening at mac and the Electric Cinema. Recommended.
