Highlighting under the radar arts and culture in Birmingham, UK

James Blackshaw

James Blackshaw

On Wednesday, James Blackshaw comes to play the Hare and Hounds to ensnare the minds of the people Birmingham with his beautifully mesmerising music.

Inspired by the guitarists of the 1960s Takoma label, he started to teach himself fingerpicking. He plays the 12-string guitar and piano beautifully, and has been compared over the years to guitar legends such as Bert Jansch, Davy Graham and John Fahey. He is heavily influenced by minimalist composers and European classical music and uses drones, overtones and repeating patterns alongside strong melody to create instrumental pieces that are intelligent, hypnotic and emotionally charged.

I’m not going to write any more. Just listen…

James Blackshaw plays the Hare and Hounds on Wednesday 7th, 8pm. Tickets cost £8.
