Highlighting under the radar arts and culture in Birmingham, UK

These are a few of my favourite things…

Poppy & The Jezebels

Over the summer months Ikon Gallery has put on a series of talks by well-known & interesting people every Wednesday evening. Inspired by Desert Island Discs, they are asked to select their eight favourite works of art. The speakers will reveal their personal inspirations and interests, illustrated by a slide show. This year the talks have featured amongst others Lisa Meyer and Jenny Moore from Capsule, Arts Editor of the Birmingham Post, Terry Grimley and artists Simon & Tom Bloor.

Next Wednesday it’s Birmingham based Poppy and the Jezebels turn! I’m looking forward to the talk as I would like to know what inspires a young (I believe some of them are under 18) band. An interesting, quirky choice for a talk.

Places are free but should be reserved by calling Ikon. Talks are from 6.30-7.30pm. There are two more talks in the series after next week; Siobhan Davies, Artistic Director and Choreographer on 2nd September and Stuart Whipps, artist on 9th September.
