I admit that I have never been to the National Trust’s Back to Back houses just across the road from Birmingham Hippodrome. It’s somewhere I’ve been meaning to visit for a long time. The property recreates a time when Brummies lived crammed into terraces sharing a communal courtyard and often one tap.
On 18 August, the courtyard will be transformed into an al fresco cinema. 7 inch Cinema present a screening of 1949 Ealing comedy Whisky Galore! The film, based on a true events, tells of the efforts of a Scottish village to retrieve 50,000 cases of whisky from a stranded ship. There will also be plenty of local archive material screened as well as ‘traditional refreshments’ (I hope that includes a wee dram!) included in the admission price.
UPDATE: Unfortunately this event has had to be cancelled. Sign up to the 7 inch/Flatpack e-newsletter for news of their great events.
